On February 5, 2026, Firefighter Howard Bennett from the Camden Fire Department (New Jersey) died while on duty. He was 60-years-old with 25 years of experience.
According to preliminary information, Firefighter Bennett was performing maintenance on the fire boat when he fell through the ice. Bennett was submerged for 30 minutes before he was rescued. He was transported to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Firefighter Bennett was posthumously promoted to captain and had planned to retire later this year. Our prayers and condolences for Firefighter Bennett's family at home as well as with the Camden Fire Department.
